Mit „Tell me what democracy looks like“ hat Erik Schmidt (* 1968 in Herford, lebt in Berlin) in Zusammenarbeit mit provinz.digital seine ersten NFTs gemintet. Erik Schmidt ist weltweit bekannt für seine filmischen und malerischen Werke, die sich sozio-kulturellen Unterschieden und Konflikten widmen, wie sie allerorts in unserer globalisierten Gesellschaft präsent sind und aufeinandertreffen. Unter dem Motto „Black Lives Matter“ haben 2020 nach dem gewaltsamen Tod von George Floyd trotz Corona-Beschränkungen viele Menschen auch in deutschen Städten gegen Rassismus demonstriert. Die digitalen Aufnahmen einzelner DemonstrantInnen verbinden sich hier mit den pastosen Übermalungen, unterlegt von dem skandierenden Schlachtruf der Menge, zu einer liquiden Animation, die dem Betrachter suggeriert, die virulente Situation unmittelbar zu erfahren. „Tell me what democracy looks like“ erscheint bei provinz.digital in drei verschiedenen Versionen, jeweils in einer Auflage von 50 Exemplaren, zu einem Preis von 150 €. Die Werke von Erik Schmidt sind in zahlreichen öffentlichen Sammlungen vertreten, z.B. With Tell me what democracy looks like, Erik Schmidt (born in Herford in 1968, lives in Berlin) has minted his first NFTs in cooperation with provinz.digital. Erik Schmidt is globally renowned for his cinematic and artistic works, which take a closer look at the socio-cultural differences and conflicts that are present – and clash – throughout our globalized society. After the violent death of George Floyd in 2020, many people took to the streets as part of the Black Lives Matter movement to protest racism, despite coronavirus-related restrictions, including in German cities. Erik Schmidt combines digital recordings of individual protesters with pastose overpainting, while the battle cries of the chanting crowds form the background, thus creating a liquid animation which makes the viewer feel as if they are immediately experiencing the virulent situation. Tell me what democracy looks like is available from provinz.digital in three different versions, NFTs, each with a run of 50 copies, at € 150 each. The works of Erik Schmidt are represented in numerous public collections.
