Wir freuen uns, Ihnen in Kooperation mit dem Förderverein Lernort Weiße Rose in Ulm zwei Originalgrafiken von Sean Scully anbieten zu können.

Sean Scully, geboren 1945 in Dublin, ist einer der bedeutendsten abstrakten Maler seiner Generation, dessen Werke seit mehr als fünfzig Jahren international ausgestellt werden. Die Erlöse der beiden Grafiken kommen der Arbeit des Fördervereins Lernort Weiße Rose zugute.

In der Orgelstube der Martin-Luther-Kirche Ulm haben Mitglieder der Widerstandsgruppe "Weiße Rose" 1943 das 5. Flugblatt zum Versand fertig gemacht. Die Orgelstube ist einer von drei verbliebenen authentischen Orten der "Weißen Rose". Hier entsteht ein neuer Lernort, der dazu dient, Jugendliche und Erwachsene über die Widerstandsgruppe zu informieren.

Der Deutsche Bundestag hat einmalig Mittel für diese Einrichtung zur Verfügung gestellt. Für die Vernetzung und Ausstattung dieses neuen Ortes sind weitere Mittel notwendig, die u.a. durch den Verkauf von gespendeten Kunstwerken aufgebracht werden. Sean Scully hat die zwei Radierungen geschaffen mit einer Auflage von je 50 Stück. 20 dieser Kunstwerke hat er großzügig für die Unterstützung des neu entstehenden Lernorts gespendet.

Sean Scully wurde 1945 in Dublin geboren, und wuchs seit seinem vierten Lebensjahr in London auf. Von 1960 bis 1962 machte er eine Ausbildung zum Drucker und studierte dann 1965-73 am Croydon College of Art in London, an der Newcastle University und an der Harvard University in Cambridge, MA. Scullys erste Einzelausstellung fand 1973 in der Rowan Gallery in London statt und war ein großer Erfolg. 1975 ermöglichte ihm ein Stipendium einen längeren Aufenthalt in New York, wo er anschließend eine Lehrtätigkeit am Chelsea College of Art and Design in London aufnahm. Von 1977 bis 1983 lehrte er an der Princeton University in New Jersey. 1938 nahm er neben der irischen auch die amerikanische Staatsbürgerschaft an. Ab 1984 wurde Sully zunehmend international erfolgreich. Seine Werke wurden in zahlreichen Einzel- und Gruppenausstellungen gezeigt und waren Teil bedeutender öffentlicher Sammlungen. Von 2002 bis 2007 hatte er eine Professur an der Akademie der Bildenden Künste in München inne. Sully lebt und arbeitet in New York, Barcelona und Mooseurach.



We are delighted to be able to offer you two original prints by Sean Scully in cooperation with the White Rose Learning Center Association in Ulm.

Sean Scully, born in Dublin in 1945, is one of the most important abstract painters of his generation, whose works have been exhibited internationally for more than fifty years. The proceeds from the two prints will benefit the work of the White Rose Learning Center Association.

In the organ room of the Martin Luther Church in Ulm, members of the "White Rose" resistance group prepared the 5th leaflet for distribution in 1943. The organ room is one of three remaining authentic "White Rose" locations. A new learning center is being created here, which serves to inform young people and adults about the resistance group.

The German Bundestag has made one-off funds available for this facility. Additional funds are needed to network and equip this new location, which will be raised, among other things, through the sale of donated works of art. Sean Scully created the two etchings, each in an edition of 50. He generously donated 20 of these works of art to support the new learning center.

Sean Scully was born in Dublin in 1945 and grew up in London from the age of four. From 1960 to 1962 he trained as a printer and then studied from 1965 to 1973 at the Croydon College of Art in London, at Newcastle University and at Harvard University in Cambridge, MA. Scully's first solo exhibition took place in 1973 at the Rowan Gallery in London and was a great success. In 1975 a scholarship enabled him to spend a longer period in New York, where he then began teaching at the Chelsea College of Art and Design in London. From 1977 to 1983 he taught at Princeton University in New Jersey. In 1938 he took American and Irish citizenship. From 1984 onwards, Sully became increasingly successful internationally. His works were shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions and were part of important public collections. In 2024, the Centre Pompidou, Paris, dedicated a retrospective to him. From 2002 to 2007 he held a professorship at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. Sully lives and works in New York, Barcelona and Mooseurach.
