Nam Kim, geboren 1991 in den USA, aufgewachsen in Südkorea, studiert Malerei in Wien an der Akademie der bildenden Künste bei Kirsi Mikkola. Ihre Arbeiten bevölkern formatfüllende Figuren, die flächig gemalt sind. Es sind Akte, Gruppenbildnisse und Porträts. Die Individualität der Dargestellten manifestiert sich insbesondere in einem bestimmten Gestus, einem Blick oder der Körperhaltung. Reduziert und ebenso stark farbig in Szene gesetzt, kippt die Komposition mitunter aufs Interessanteste von der Figuration in die Abstraktion. Mit einer subtilen Variation ihrer eigenen Stilmittel erzeugt die Malerin dabei starke, emotionale Momente, der Intimität, Zugewandheit und Nähe.
Born in the USA in 1991 and raised in South Korea, Nam Kim studies painting at the Vienna Academy with Professor Kirsi Mikkola. Her paintings are filled with large, rather two-dimensional characters, mostly nudes, alone or in groups. Their individuality is built by gestures, a gaze or a certain posture. As they are reduced and set in just as brilliant colours as the set pieces that make up the natural surroundings, the composition occasionally shifts from the figurative to the abstract.
